The SB! Guide to... well life!

First of all I must apologise for my horrific lack of posts lately, how I had the hubris to neglect the blog is unforgivable. However I thought I would take the opportunity to offer "Perry's perspective" (yes I know my name isn't Perry, but I wanted to throw a scrubs quote in there) and give you the Surprisingly Bewildered guide to life.

Regarding Life...
"the only way to be respected as a doctor and a man is to be an island, you are born alone, you damn sure die alone. isn't that right spike? the point is, and you might want to jot this down, only the weak need help" - Dr Perry Cox.

A truer word has never been spoken, man fends for himself. It is when people decide to blur the lines and interfere with other people's business (regardless of whether they need it or not) that causes conflict and tension.

Surely if man was left to fend for himself this world would be a better place? Obviously this isn't always the case and there is sometimes a need to blur the lines. However, I would prefer it if I was left to my own devices and able to do whatever I want.

Why do we feel that we need to help those who aren't actually in need, why do we waste thousands of tax payers money on council estates , supporting chavs who don't want our help and will happily 'shank' you for the aforementioned money.

Regarding Politics...
"Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong." ~Richard Armour

It's no secret that I am very right wing, I would happily be the one who refuses entry to the UK to anyone who tries to enter on the back of a lorry. There's all this talk about 'their' civil liberty, but no talk about our own. We're happy to exploit our own kind just so we look good to the rest of the world. We'll happily be Europe, nay, the rest of the world's doormat to prove how loving Britain truly is.

For too long now people have been avoiding comments like the above because of fear of the backlash they will receive. Why does this great nation happily buckle under the pressure of Europe, to show how equal and liberal we are?

Did you know it costs the UK more than six million pounds PER HOUR to be part of the EU! Why are we happily paying this much to be part of the 'cool' gang? Or perhaps we're afraid of being isolated from the rest of the world. This nation used to rule the world at one point, we went from being the 'Alpha-male' to becoming the herd of sheep we now know as Great Britain!

It's time for a change!

"Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason. "

  1. Ahem...
    http://siteresources.worldbank.org/DATASTATISTICS/Resources/GDP.pdf

A quick perspective/reality check: stats from the world bank put the UK as the fifth richest country in the world. This is GDP. We're only slightly behind China... but while we have 86% of the wealth that China does, we also have 4.6% of their population. This makes the average Brit 19 times richer than the average Chinese person. 19 TIMES RICHER!!

Looking at it from another perspective, we are dwarfed by America's economy. In fact, it was only American banks being greedily unwise with their money that caused this knock-on effect we're seeing in our economy over here, but despite that, the USA could easily slap our asses around if it felt like it. "Great" Britain, indeed!

You're full of contradictions: you talk about "every man for himself" and then talk about "us", as in the British. All of a sudden, when you put a little bit of sea around us, you become very communal. "We, the British" are a community who needs to be protected from outsiders. "Great Britain", home of Kerry Katona, cold-callers, chavs, binge-drinking, Jade Goody (May her beautiful British soul rest in peace), Nick Griffin, and many, many more wonderful, wonderful souls who make this land the (fifth) Greatest nation in the world!

You post quotes from Perry Cox (great character) out of context, when in SO many other scenes we see him at odds with Dr Kelso over disagreements to put the good of the patients (ie. Individuals in need of help) ahead of the Hospital (ie. an institution).

You proclaim yourself to be a fan of Barack Obama. Pah!! The most left-wing, liberal president America has had for decades!

You post a blog about terrorist scaremongering in the media and blame it on "liberals". Oh please... we're talking paranoia over foreigners here, does that sound liberal or conservative?

Yes, Britain WAS the world's ruling nation a hundred or so years ago. There were lots of foreigners in the country then! They were called "slaves", and thanks to their free labour we became the most powerful nation on earth! Yay for slavery! Bring it back!!
Then there'd be no complaints about foreigners coming in on the backs of lorries!

You're arguing on the side of people you don't know... people whose ideas, beliefs, behaviours, are completely different to your own but JUST because they were born on this bit of rock in the middle of the sea they somehow qualify to be looked after (which is at odds with your idea of every man fending for himself). The UK is just as much of a mixed bag of decent people and arseholes as the rest of the world is.

If you're arguing for the good of the nation as an institution, just remember that you didn't decide to be born here. Being British is not something that you achieved. You're no more British than I am a capricorn or an uncle... we had nothing to do with it, we were just told "that's what you are! You were born in that place/at that time so you're British/a capricorn." Well gee, thanks. That's something I really worked hard to achieve and can be proud of.

How far back in your family does "British" go? Both parents born in the UK? All four grandparents? Or are you some freak hyrid (like me, and... well... like most people, probably) who, according to your right-wing ideas, shouldn't really be here?

  2. (continued)

Sit down and talk to anyone, from any nation, and, assuming you can get past the language barrier (which is quite likely as most people from a huge number of foreign countries are quite fluent in English) and it becomes pretty obvious that people are just the same the whole world around. Maybe you'll get lucky and be able to speak to a child in Africa who laughs at your jokes, listens to your stories about your brick house with central heating, internet connection and sanitary toilet facilities, before he tells you about his friends from school and the games they like to play and the subjects he enjoys learning about. You'll find you're very similar. If he's silly, he might even tell you he's "proud" to be from the country he's from, as opposed to "glad" which would be perfectly reasonable. I'm "glad" I'm British because the probability of me being born in a place where I could enjoy a quality of life THIS high is pretty staggeringly slim!

And since you ended with a quote, I will too:
"I hate patriotism, I can't stand it, makes me fuckin sick, it's a round world last time I checked, okay?" - Bill Hicks

PS. I like the way you managed to get "hubris" into your blog post. So underused, but it's a perfectly cromulent word. ;-)
